Description

It is honest about characters being fearful about people they do not know and situations they do not understand.

But, apart from this terrible fact, when it comes to the book, I must say that my heart felt for every single sentence and for ahmed's life that unfortunately it's still the reality for a lot of children and adults out there. It was heartwarming listening to their discussions about refugees, they were very empathetic and sympathetic towards the refugee boy in the book. When they hear that the gates to refugees are to be closed, they hatch a plan ‘The Greatest Idea in the World’ with the aim of ensuring that Ahmet can be reunited with his family.

It also teaches a great lesson to adults about humanity and how children do not judge and just take people for who they are with kindness, not through bigoted views. It was really good and it was a very interesting book because it showed how our world really is like because some people can be mean and looking for fame while others are kind and helpful towards other people especially refugees who have escaped from war or any damage happening in their country! I was thinking while reading the book how many significant events have happened since it was published in 2018, including the war in Ukraine, the growth in the number of people crossing the UK in small boats and of course the death of the late Queen. I am sorry, I am a big no no against bullying, and then especially when bullies seem to get away quite often with the crap they pull. Though some adults and a teacher behave in a bigoted, unsupportive way, the openhearted, helpful adults support the kids in their efforts to help Ahmet and other refugees.

An inspiring and sweet tale that will help children think about what it is to be a good person whatever your circumstances (the narrator is from a poor background with a single parent mum who struggles to make ends meet), and challenge prejudice and push for fairness, whenever possible. This UKS2 task looks at the different viewpoints of the characters: the children and Mr Irons in chapter 7.Es ist dabei kindgerecht geschrieben, aber auch so berührend und fesselnd, dass es auch ein wertvolles Buch für erwachsene Leser ist!

This book’s greatest strength is how it conveys the emotive nature of its main theme in a way that opens up conversations instead of shutting them down. The narrator -- whose gender and name are not revealed until the end of the book, making the case for the universal every-kid -- has been incredibly sheltered in unusual ways. Yes the dad had died, and the mum worked a lot but she was clearly a loving mum who created adventures for her child. His story was just so sad (though I had a laugh because of the innocence of the MC and her reactions to the story). And after the event with the big plan I loved how the adults protected the kids and patiently told them what to do (No comment! Khan’s classroom, but on the third Tuesday of the school year a new kid fills it: nine-year-old Ahmet, a Syrian refugee. Narrated by one of this group of children, this touching novel conveys the seriousness of the situation while maintaining a humorous tone when describing the scrapes they get into while trying to accomplish their mission. Nevertheless, this engaging book can serve as a resource for readers who want to learn more about the global refugee crisis without being flattened by the weight of the world. When Ahmet arrives in their class, a group of children are curious to know more about him – where he is from, what language does he speak and where is his family?
