About this deal

To be honest, I came into this test expecting to hate the Dime Travel. I’ve previously tested a standard model, and it was one of the worst multi-tools I’ve ever owned. Sadly, the scissors on the Dime and the Squirt aren’t much better. Both were loose with a slight wobble between the blades making cutting a challenge. But in my experience, yanking on a caught zipper will just break the thing. Do you really need a tool for that? Any attempt to snip metal will cause the jaws to deform, forcing you to use the wire itself to pry open the jaws. If you really feel like you need two knife blades on such a small multi tool the Vise provides them. For build quality and overall usefulness though, we say go with the Dime. Dime Vs Leatherman Squirt PS4

The Gerber Dime vs. Leatherman Squirt PS4 has similar spring-loaded pliers that stay open when you aren’t applying pressure. A. The base Gerber Dime is not technically approved, given the knife blades, but there is a separate Gerber Dime Travel, with many of the same features, that is approved. Q. How big is the Gerber Dime? The Leatherman has a flip-out opener on the screwdriver which is thin and gets the job done… but not that well. The Gerber Dime is for anyone who wants to make sure they always have at least some tools with them. It gives you a tool at hand to turn a small screw or get a better grip on something. It isn’t going to give you a tool boxes worth of value but it’s not priced at that level. The Gerber Dime is no one’s choice for best multi tool. It’s too small to be really useful for most tasks and too fragile to be put through serious use. Despite that, we like this little tool. It was never meant to compete with full size tools in either durability or usefulness. It’s small enough to comfortably fit on your keychain and light enough to always be with you.

It may say "Travel" on it but I would carry this with me every day. This would be an ideal gift for anybody. You don’t want to be the guy fumbling with his multi-tool before he can open a girl’s beer. Not cool. Best Blade: Gerber Dime It’s important to understand when reviewing these tools that we were grading on a curve. It’s a given that the tools on the Dime aren’t as capable as those on full sized multi tools. What we’re looking for is how they hold up and function for everyday tasks. Pliers and Wire Cutters They are basically the same in size, function, and quality so it’s tough to choose a winner in this round, as they will both get the job done. Best Other Tools: Gerber Dime Not every multi-tool, even those from our favorite brands, are winners. These are models we've tried and don't like as much (or at all). Save your money and skip 'em.

I like this little tool but a couple of modifications would have given it 5*. The box opener is a clever idea but I actually found the knife blade better for this and the keyring loop isn't big enough so I attach my keys and torch to the bottle opener. These are minor quibbles. Quality is equivalent to the weatherman micro series. Both tools function exactly the same, with the blade, file, scissors, and screwdrivers placed on the outside, giving you a solid handle and grip when you need to use them.A. The Dime is seriously pint-sized, measuring 2.75 inches long and weighing 2.2 oz. Q. Will the Gerber Dime replace a full-sized multitool? As you can see from the picture below, Gerber added a lot of versatility in the jaws with flat and curved sections to grab almost anything. The Dime Travel, Gerber’s TSA compliant version of the Dime, replaces the knife blade with a blunt tip file. Scissors and Tweezers Finally, the tweezers are more useful than any of the others I’ve seen in my day, such as those found in a Victorinox, and I’ve pulled bee stingers and splinters out with no issue as to their ability to grasp. What we don’t like about the Gerber Dime The Gerber Dime has a better design, more tools that are easier to access, and costs half as much as the Leatherman. It was the hands-down winner.

Some people also find an alternative model in the Gerver vise. This other model also includes 10 tools. It is very similar in essence.Bernard is known for bringing everyday carry out of obscurity and into the mainstream, having been published or featured in various publications such as GQ, TIME Magazine, The New York Times, VICE, HYPEBEAST, Outside, and many others.
