Archimandrite lets you have a Mechanicum Allied Detachment (otherwise impossible), gain a second Cybertheurgic Arcana, and significantly boosts the power of models with Most of the rest of this is just cleaning up of various loose ends: demons have a defined amount of Fear; fortifications can now contain models, which is nice; ramming has been tweaked to make sense; and so on. There are also some quality of life changes to Overwatch meaning that you can only use it against the unit that triggered the reaction – pretty much how everyone was using it anyway, but it’s explicit now.

One step down, your Magos Dominus is a bit more of a dedicated Cybertheurgist/Cybernetica expert, almost equivalent to a type of Centurion. They’ve got all the guns you could need, a 5+ Feel No Pain and the ability to join Automata units, which is always helpful, and also come with an “on Abeyant” datasheet split from the main sheet. The previous edition of the Mechanicum codex was chopped full of potent shooting options with very few bad options. Those days are well behind us as the overall lethality of the book has gone down significantly. From my perspective legion units such as Terminators, Contemptor dreadnaughts, and aggressive in your face primarchs still pose a challenge for any Tech Priest; there are few removal strategies for these common units. Your best bet is loading up on Rad weapons to lower the toughness of those units before engaging with other range weapons that might be able to double them out or improve your wound rolls. Another option might be taking Artificia Cybernetica from Cyberthurgy. This grants your magos a S10 AP1 gun that will Instant Death Automata and Dreadnoughts. I believe this is a must take with the amount of Dreads floating around from the Age of Darkness boxes and recent release of Leviathan’s. 2. Few Worthwhile Close Combat OptionsNot everyone comes to Warhammer: The Horus Heresy to fight with Adeptus Astartes. Some take up their dice in the name of the Omnissihah. These cyber-augmented armies are bristling with esoteric weaponry and apocalyptic war machines, creating a unique presence within the battles of the 31st Millennium. Or at least that’s how we think it works – they sometimes refer to a “fearless unit” without defining what that is. On the top of the Warhammer Horus Heresy Sicaran Battle Tank is a choice to outfit the Pintle (the weapon on the top) with multiple choices, including a heavy flamer, or even an Astartes Commander poking his head out to fire at his enemies. I've gone with the havoc launcher because I love the chaos it sows on the battlefield, and, quite frankly, I think it looks extremely cool. We've also added a search light, a smoke launcher, and a front hull mounted hunter-killer missile. How Should I Play The Warhammer Horus Heresy Sicaran Battle Tank? Keep your army lists at hand wherever the enemies of the Omnissiah might be with the digital ePub edition of the Liber Mechanicum – Forces of the Omnissiah Army Book . This version contains all of the same content as the physical copy and weighs practically nothing, so you’ll have extra space in your bag for another Warhound Titan. * Knight Questoris There’s a new detachment for this subfaction, the Household Detachment, and it can be used as a primary detachment or a secondary. If you take it as a primary then you can take an allied detachment, which is cool, and also the limit on Lords of War is dropped. Now this might sound like you’re going to be able to jam your whole list full of big knights, but actually the truth is quite a lot neater than that.

The special relics the Ultramarines can give to an independent character include: A Legatine Axe, to replace a Power Axe (AP2 Axe); the Argyrum Pattern Boarding Shield (5++ in shooting, 4++ in Melee); and The Mantles of Ultramar, which replaces Artificer Armor. This gives a 2+ Armor Save, Battle Hardened (1), and makes the model immune to Blind. The first two relics are the standard wargear of the Invictarius Suzerians. The Knights that make up these armies operate as Lords of War in Mechanicum armies, but the Divisio Questoris Household rules break them out into their own force. For every two Troops choices – which are Armigers, by the way – a Lord of War may be taken. There are oodles of options on top of this, making Knight armies more attractive than ever. Finally, I'd like to say a massive ***THANK YOU!*** to all of the Panoptica Team who poured their hearts and their efforts into writing this content - as well as our amazing playtester team, without whom this would not have been possible. The Warhammer Vault continues to grow as the lore sections from the Militarum Tempestus book are added, along with White Dwarf issues 342 and 343. We March for Macragge” is not only the Ultramarine’s battlecry, it is also pretty much the theme of the army – everything from Roboute Guilliman to the Legion’s bespoke Rite of War to the Warlord Traits speaks to well-coordinated units (footsloggers, mechanized infantry, and Dreadnoughts to be specific) fighting together with purpose and unity. The Ultramarines are not a tank legion, but instead maximize the power of different types of infantry squads and dreadnoughts to do all sorts of awesome things.Cybernetica makes your Castellax Line, making them massively more useful as a troops choice and probably your goto. Automata in this Detachment also reduce an enemy’s cover safe, and your Archmagos Cybernetica can join Automata units and always allocate hits against the robots, negating rules such as Sniper and Precision Strikes. This is a massive boost to survivability, especially against armies like Alpha Legion. The Leviathan Siege Dreadnought with Ranged Weapons comes with three different arm-mounted guns for you to choose from – and the ranged weapons frame is also available separately. Grab a sprue for your ranged Leviathan to double-up on guns, or combine it with the close combat frame to build the versatile Leviathan of your dreams. This is pretty crazy as you could easily have 3 units in range, and definitely blast that unit off the board that is shooting at you! The intent with the Expanded Units entries is that they remain a work in progress until such time as we produce new miniatures, or re-release old ones, at which point they will be published in their final “core” form in a book. The Praetor armed with a power sword from the Age of Darkness boxed set also arrives on his own, perfect for adding some MkVI power armour style to the commanding force for your Legion. Praetor with Power Axe

The Iron Hands have no named characters other than their primarch, but they do have a couple of unique units. The Gorgon Terminator Squad gets the flashy armour and really are focused on being tough above everything else. Their weapons are fine if not exciting, but their leader, the “hammerbearer”, gets a thunderhammer (surprised pikachu). The other option are the Medusan Immortals Squad which are pretty much breachers but tougher. Nothing hugely exciting in these options to be honest – hopefully the Xth get some love in an upcoming campaign book. Of the Arcana on offer our favourite is probably Artificia Cybernetica, buffing your Automata (including the neat ability for them to make Reactions, patching that massive hole in your capabilities) and granting your Magos a S10 AP1 gun that will Instant Death Automata and Dreadnoughts, but cannot hurt anything that isn’t one of those, Buildings, or Vehicles. A close second is Artificia Reductor can make enemy units Emergency Disembark Vehicles and Buildings against their will while also pinning them, while also wielding a truly appalling anti-tank melee weapon. When your elite units need a heavily armoured chariot to ferry them into battle, look no further than the mighty Spartan Assault Tank. Based on the venerable Land Raider chassis, this beast of a transport is one of the toughest vehicles around, and can give as good as it gets in a tank clash with two powerful quad-lascannon arrays. Cataphractii Terminator Squad The legion specific units available to the Vth are almost all focused on speed and hitting hard. The Golden Keshig Squadron are some elite bikers that hit with unique power lances that have an eyewatering set of special rules including Sudden Strike (4) and Brutal (3). The Ebon Keshig Cohort is another elite choice, but this time in tartaros terminator armour, and equipped with power glaives. These are elite suicide troops, and never give up VP for being destroyed. Finally you have the Kyzagan Assault Speeder Squadron, which is a fancy land speeder with a Kheres assault cannon and two Reaper autocannons strapped to it. Lots of gun, which it can fire all of thanks to Firing Protocols. This covers units such as the HQ Inara Satarael, an Archmagus of the Great Crusade who bears the cumbersome title “Master of the Taghmata Satarael, Synod-Persecutor of Incaladion, The Grief of Zoroastris, The Fleshless Lord”. Whew. This will be a fairly large book with a bunch of units, so if you already play them, it’s good to see! Liber Mechanicum Rules That means a charging Knight Lancer is a serious threat to even the heaviest tanks, and is all but mathematically guaranteed to skewer any unfortunate Predator or Vindicator that crosses its path.
