Set in 1960s England, the series stars Lorna Watson ( Watson & Oliver), reprising her role as nun, moped rider, wine maker and part-time forensic scientist Sister Boniface. The year is now 1955 and Chief Inspector Sullivan and Mrs Devine seem to be getting rather close, much to the interest of Father Brown and Brenda!

As ever Father Brown is tasked with solving a string of highly puzzling cases including a food fayre to die for and a real-life crime at a crime writing festival. There's also a village rivalry that turns deadly while Father Brown and Sister Boniface become embroiled in a murder at an arts and crafts fair.

Alien | Noah Hawley's TV series now set for 2025

Will Trotter, Executive Producer, BBC Studios Drama Productions said: “We are absolutely thrilled to see Sister Boniface return for a second series. Jude Tindall and the team of writers have created unforgettable characters full of wit and mischief. Lorna Watson's performance is as forensic as her character - the sharp intelligence, charm and warmth she brings to the role is an irresistible combination. The entire cast and crew have been a joy to work with and I think that shines through in this big hearted and hugely original show.” Sister Boniface Mysteries on Drama channel is UKTV’s highest rated show of 2023, consolidating to 1.3m viewers*. The three regularly featured police officers are Detective Inspector Sam Gillespie (revealed in episode 9 to be a former army officer), Detective Sergeant Felix Livingstone (on secondment from the police force of the Imperial fortress colony of Bermuda), and Constable (WPC) Peggy Button. Sister Boniface Mysteries is a BBC Studios Continuing Drama Co-Production for BritBox International and UKTV’s Drama channel and streaming service, UKTV Play. We’re not yet sure if Father Brown himself, actor Mark Williams, will make a guest appearance again. Felix was supposed to be on secondment to the Metropolitan Police but an administrative error lands him in Great Slaughter. A cast of eccentric local characters combined with his boss’s reliance on a nun leave him reeling. Although as Detective Inspector Sam points out, that “Nun” ensures they have the highest clean-up rate in the county. The Doctor Who train just keeps on rolling. Hot on the heels of the news that we will finally be able to see the 60th anniversary specials across three Saturdays from the 25th November - that'll each [...]

The entire cast and crew have been a joy to work with and I think that shines through in this big hearted and hugely original show.” It’s fantastic to be giving our audience the gift of a brand new, feature-length episode this Christmas.” When’s the release date? BritBox’s crime drama spin-off launched earlier this year, features the return of its titular character from an early Father Brown episode.
