As a top-floor-with-a-view kind of card, the gaming performance of the MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Suprim outpaces any other GPU we've tested to date, and not always by a small margin. In some of the titles we tested, like Red Dead Redemption 2, the RTX 3090 was more than 20% faster than the RTX 3080 Founders Edition in 1440p, though that gain dipped to just 12% in 4K.We can't say how much extra juice MSI has imparted into its RTX 3090 over other models just yet, since Founders Edition RTX 3090 cards were in short supply from Nvidia during the RTX 30 Series launch and PCMag didn't get the opportunity to test one. Close Quarters Heatpipe & Heatsink: Memory modules have their own close quarters heatpipe and heatsink for dedicated cooling. TORX FAN 4.0 is a masterpiece built on teamwork, with pairs of fan blades linked together with a revolutionary ring design to focus airflow and air pressure into the heatsink. GTX 680 | GK104-400 | 28nm | 294mm² | 3.5 BT |⠀ 1536 CCs | 128 TMUs | 32 ROPs | ⠀8 SMs | 1058 MHz | 2GB | 256MB x 8 | GDDR5 | 256-bit | ⠀192 GB/s | 200W

The GeForce RTX 3090 is the only graphics card in the Ampere family that features an NVLink interface for SLI. Implicit multi-GPU (the classic SLI you know) is not available—only explicit multi-GPU is supported. Explicit multi-GPU requires that game developers invest their own time and money to add support for the technology, which simply isn't going to happen because of the tiny market size for the feature. Only a handful of games and benchmarks support explicit multi-GPU. To use even this mode, you'll need to buy a new-generation NVLink bridge separately. The NVLink cable from your RTX 20-series cards won't physically fit, and with NVIDIA reportedly stopping the development of SLI profiles for newer games from 2021 for GPUs that support implicit multi-GPU, we can safely conclude that the age of multi-GPU gaming is over. Buying a pair of RTX 3090 cards for multi-GPU would cater to a very tiny niche, mostly professionals. As we mentioned earlier, the RTX 3090 is based on the 8 nm "GA102" silicon, nearly maxing it out. All but one of the 42 TPCs (84 streaming multiprocessors) are enabled, resulting in a CUDA core count of 10,496, along with 328 Tensor cores, 82 RT cores, 328 TMUs, and 112 ROPs. To achieve 24 GB, the RTX 3090 maxes out the 384-bit wide memory bus on the "GA102" and uses the fastest 19.5 Gbps GDDR6X memory, which gives the card an astounding 940 GB/s of memory bandwidth.

RTX 3080 Ti | GA102-250 | 8nm | 628mm² | 28.3 BT | 10240 CCs | 320 TMUs | 112 ROPs | ⠀80 SMs | 1665 MHz | 12GB | 1024MB x 12 | GDDR6X | 384-bit | ⠀912 GB/s | 320W⠀⠀ If there's anywhere the MSI RTX 3090 Suprim X 24G is going to make the case for its high cost, it's here. The 24GB of onboard VRAM sends the RTX 3090 to new heights in these tests, setting records wherever it goes, though perhaps not by the kinds of margins that you might have been expecting given the price. TORX Fan 4.0: A masterpiece of teamwork, fan blades work in pairs to create unprecedented levels of focused air pressure. During its marketing blitz, Nvidia chose to focus on the RTX 3090 as the "world's first 8K gaming card," though this is disputable, depending on a huge variety of factors that won't fit in the small print. (Cards that came before the RTX 3090 can run games and applications at 8K...it's just a matter of how well.)The Founders Edition of the 3090 Ti uses a 1x16-pin power connector, a larger version of the 12-pin connector that debuted with the RTX 3080 FE. Like before, this new port links to your PSU via a 3x8-pin dongle that’s included in the box. Unlike with the 3090, OEMs have also opted to use this new connector, as can be seen on the Suprim X here. You’ll need a beefy power supply (Nvidia recommends 850w minimum) as the card has a TDP of 480 watts, up from 450w on the Founders Edition. GTX 580 | GF110-375 | 40nm | 520mm² | 3.0 BT | ⠀512 CCs | 64 TMUs | 48 ROPs | ⠀16 SMs | 772 MHz | 1.5GB | 128MB x 12 | GDDR5 | 384-bit | ⠀192 GB/s | 250W

Built upon two decades of award-winning graphics cards, the time to evolve beyond Gaming has come. A new design philosophy takes shape to pave the way for a new prestigious series. We test GPUs using a mixture of synthetic and real-world gaming benchmarks. I’ll be comparing the RTX 3090 Ti against the 3090 and 3080 Ti, the only other graphics cards in remotely the same realm of performance and price, as well as the RTX 3080, to give a more mainstream point of comparison. For our benchmarks, all tests are set to Ultra settings unless otherwise noted. RTX 3090 | GA102-300 | 8nm | 628mm² | 28.3 BT | 10496 CCs | 328 TMUs | 112 ROPs | ⠀82 SMs | 1695 MHz | 24GB | 1024MB x 24 | GDDR6X | 384-bit | ⠀936 GB/s | 350W⠀⠀ RTX 2080 | TU104-400 | 12nm | 545mm² | 13.6 BT |⠀ 2944 CCs | 184 TMUs | 64 ROPs | ⠀46 SMs | 1710 MHz | 8GB | 1024MB x 8 | GDDR6 | 256-bit | ⠀448 GB/s | 215WGTX 980 Ti | GM200-310 | 28nm | 601mm² | 8.0 BT |⠀ 2816 CCs | 172 TMUs | 96 ROPs | ⠀22 SMs | 1076 MHz | 6GB | 512MB x 12 | GDDR5 | 384-bit | ⠀336 GB/s | 250W On the top of the card, I found an NVLink connector, a rare find in the RTX 30 Series these days. Nvidia hasn't completely scrapped the idea of dual-card solutions just yet, and sensibly the company has left the technology as an option only in the RTX 3090 class of cards. Though there are a few games out there that know how to take advantage of two graphics cards linked up through either NVLink or the aging SLI standard, the best usage case for NVLink these days is in productivity and content-creation tasks, which is exactly what the RTX 3090 was designed for. We didn't have another identical RTX 3090 on hand to test the feature, though. RTX 3090s, like every other high-end graphics card in the world right now, aren't easy to come by.
