About this deal

The section looks like it could be painful to grip but the pen is light and does not require a tight hold to control it. For those that like to use watercolors after laying down links, it’s not as the wash will cause the lines to run. And it wasn't a pretty pen to begin with, because the section is a very light purple; that must have been some special edition, and surely a later production than yours.

The most comfortable pen I've ever used and the nibs glides, and hasn't as yet drags, across different grades of paper. Artpens are modern fountain pens, but their elegant design preserves the feel and balance of traditional dip pens. The pen gets thrown into my work bag or dropped into my top drawer, not abused just laid wherever it may be needed. The amount of ink flow may prove limiting for closely-spaced hatching as I noticed a trough of ink forming – in a cold room, this may spread, reducing the white space between the lines but this is behavior to become accustomed to rather than an issue. It doesn't seem bothered what diet of ink it is fed, it just lays down ink reliably, never remember it either skipping or flooding. The nibs can be a little skippy on coated/smooth paper, which can be annoying, but overall they perform well.

The Lyra Art pen is available in 36 loose colours includingfluorescent and metallic gold and silver permanent, opaque colours which can beused on dark surfaces . I wasn’t sure that I’d like the length of it but once I was working with the pen, I forgot all about it.It's surprisingly smooth (which is for me - beight a leftie - is a very good thing) and it's nicely wet. As you can see, adding water had a huge impact, offering some fabulous creative opportunities if you’re interested in creating monochromatic pieces. The plastic feels cheaper, the mouldings have a little edge to them, but they are not worn down after 25 years use.

I tried fixing the metal-end back to its plastic body, but I noticed that writing with it was no longer the same anymore – the ink-flow was permanently affected, being rather inconsistent. Line width variance was pleasingly simple – a slight turn of the nib produced a noticeable change in stroke size and I’m looking forward to putting the Art Pen through its paces on a larger test piece. I just wanted to congratulate for your good and deep review for those three pens; I also wanted to ask if you know how would that Platinum KDP-3000 compare to the Platinum 3776 UEF in regards of line thinness? The silicone stuff, by the way, cost 6 €, but it served for more than one pen: the next one was a Sheaffer Prelude, because it has a much too thin grip section. But since the ink is fast drying and waterproof, there is a chance that it will eventually clog the channel of the pen. They are smooth, assuming you keep the nib aligned with the paper, and they are medium wet, so suitable for regular writing and practicing with. We believe that giving children the right materials, they will make and play with beautiful things that last a lifetime. The sleeve has the Rotring logo, Germany 1928, and the product name on it, along with pen details on the back. The only slight drawback is it is very long and does not fit in my pencilcase but don't care really . At 18cm in length, it’s not as short as many fountain pens (shown here with a Lamy Safari), tapering off to a narrow rounded end which sits quite comfortably in the hand.
