It’s a show of love, of hard work, of emotion, and honestly I just thought it was amazing to read about all different kinds of pastries. Namey made Lila’s England summer feel so fleshed out, taking time to focus on all the personal, emotional layers to her story where your left understanding all of her hopes, desires, fears and goals for the future. Lila Reyes doesn’t want to be in England—in fact, she’d rather be where she feels most at home, in her Abuela’s kitchen in Miami, carrying on her legacy. It’s full of sweetness (with not too much sugar), a top notch romantic relationship, letting go friendships, but forming new ones, and tons of cooking and baking. I just loved her so much and found myself relating to her and her struggles every now and then, which made this read even more of a hit, for me.

I didn’t want to come to your England, but my mami pulled out her greatest trick of all, even more powerful than guava pastries and other common Cuban heartbreak remedies.

They tease each other but they always know exactly the right thing to say and do at exactly the right time. Namey’s deal was brokered by Natascha Morris at The Tobias Literary Agency and Andrew Deane at Industry Entertainment. But oh, the way that the passion that Lila has for craft bleeds into everything she does and everything that this story is about. She’s a very skilled baker, having been taught from a very early age by her grandmother – it was their ‘thing’. It follows Lila as she leaves her life at her Abuela's Cuban bakery in Miami to spend the summer cooking at her Aunt's inn in London.

Also I thought she was a bit judgy of our use of the word sorry (she implies she only apologises when it worthwhile making her apology more valuable and it put me on the defensive reading it a little. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. And I don’t want to say that Lila’s reaction is disproportionate, because everyone responds to upheaval in different ways.

Laura Taylor Namey is the New York Times bestselling author of Reese’s Book Club pick A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow, The Library of Lost Things, and When We Were Them. Through the power of baking and delicious Cuban cooking, this story made it especially clear at how food can help one heal, but also bring people together. Look, I get that Lila and her grandmother are/were obviously very talented but seeing Lila criticise everything, especially scones of all things, in England was a bit off-putting.

A charming, heartwarming story following a Miami girl who unexpectedly finds love – and herself – in a small English town. I'm really triggered when authors, especially those promoting diversity use the name of the continent to mean one precise place. From her expertise to the details that make their way into the writing, the baking and foodie elements deliver a cozy feel to the story as well.Because of her, Pilar and I would never dare board a plane without toting a spare pair of underwear and a change of clothes. lately, I have been OBSESSED with England and Europe in general, so this definitely helped my need to travel grow even more.

For hours, I pushed past every hazard sign my body threw out, crossing neighborhood boundaries, until dinnertime came and went. Firstly, let me just say I know its been quite a bit since I’ve been blogging and interacting with you all, I’ve missed it honestly. so while this wasn't necessarily a favorite for me, I think that if you like YA romance, this is a pretty perfect example of the genre and I do recommend!Lila navigates her grief, loss, and heartbreak through baking the most delicious Cuban pastries and dishes, and with the help of Orion including his sister, Flora, and his friends Jules and Remy. From this premise, I already found A Cuban Girl’s Guide SO promising and let me tell you: it lived up to the hype. Orion supports and cares for Lila through her mental health progresses and setbacks, yet Lila expends zero emotional energy in his direction.
