While some gels will give you all the hold (and all the dryness and accidental shrinkage), other gels, like this protein-spiked formula from Aunt Jackie's, will keep your hair defined and moisturized, and—when paired with a good curl cream and/or oil—stretched and healthy, even in your wash and go. She’s an authority in all hair categories, but is an expert when it comes to curly skin, thanks to her own lifetime of working with her own 2b/ 3a curly hair.

This co-wash/cleansing conditioner is thick, creamy, and super moisturizing, making it perfect for the driest and most damaged of curls. It'll clump your curls to help protect them against frizz and humidity while you diffuse or air-dry. Once you’ve applied your products, you can plop your hair (my preferred method), scrunch out the water with a cotton T-shirt or cotton towel, diffuse it on low heat or let it air-dry if you’re doing a wash and go. You’re suddenly manipulating your waves and curls in a new way with new products and new drying methods, so it’s inevitable that your hair will rebel a bit in the beginning. Enter: this flaxseed gel that uses a touch of glycerin and oil (the type of oil depends on which of the five fragrances you choose) to amp up hydration and shine without the crunch.

What about how to find the best fashion deals of the season, the softest sheets on the market, or exactly how to use retinol without irritating your skin?

This sulfate-free shampoo is incredibly lightweight and doesn't have a ton of moisture, so only use this one if you have super-fine/oily hair. I started the Curly Girl Method a few months ago and read about this numerous times from other curly girls. But if you’re going for the gel cast, you'll need a lot of gel—like a huge handful of gel for fine, shoulder-length hair. But this castor oil-based gel has enough slip and hydration to keep your braids, knots, and twists moisturized and held without drying them out or feeling stiff.

Before CGM, my hair was already healthy—I never dyed it, I never heat-styled it, and I already used sulfate-free products.

THE REVIEWS: "This gel provides great curl and hold without super crunchiness and it doesn't dry out your hair," one tester's review reads.

Let your complexion shine bright and discover the cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising heroes in the full collection of Drunk Superstars. This custard is on the lighter end of the custard spectrum, so it won't feel as heavy on finer hair types. Still, a good rule of thumb: If you have coilier hair, try co-washing once a week; if you have thicker, coarser curls or waves, try cleansing 1-3 times a week; and if you have fine, oil-prone waves or curls, try cleansing every other day. uk accepts no liability for inaccuracies or misstatements about products by manufacturers or other third parties. Coat your hands with gel then rake and scrunch it through your soaking-wet hair section by section (here’s a gel cast tutorial I love, if you need a visual).
