We work closely with publishers and authors to ensure that we offer the best books on the market for your child. Written and illustrated by celebrated children’s author and artist David McKee, the Elmer books have been translated into more than 50 languages, teaching children to respect others' differences and celebrating the virtue of being oneself. The inspiration for the character was not, as popular legend would have it, in response to a racist incident experienced by his mixed race family, but simply because McKee liked drawing elephants and squares.

It can be highlighted that it is differences which make people interesting, and that no one should be ostracized because they are slightly different from their peers. David McKee's colourful depiction of differences through the story of Elmer can provide and important learning curve for children.Created by David McKee as a response to the intolerance he witnessed in daily life, Elmer the Elephant has been rejoicing in difference and enchanting the nation’s children for 30 years.

Elmer is a wonderful children's story with the underlying message that it is alright for everyone to be different and that we all possess unique qualities. David McKee has a keen insight into what will appeal to little children, a lovely way with words, producing bold and attractive illustrations, and a story with a strong heart at its core. Of course this makes Elmer sad that he is no longer accepted and begins to understand how it feels to be treated like an outsider.Elmer teaches us that everyone has something unique to bring the table and there's no point trying to disguise your true self. They much prefer his multicoloured and fun loving persona, and reassure Elmer that they love him because of his differences, and not in spite of them.

Little hands will love turning each sturdy page and meeting favourite friends from the world of Elmer the patchwork elephant. The positive message about celebrating differences is done in a way that’s not at all heavy handed and I think it’s effective. Elmer the patchwork elephant is delightfully, colourfully different to all the other elephants and he’s usually the one who makes everyone laugh. essere piccoli non significa non saper ragionare e distinguere le emozioni e le circostanze degli avvenimenti della vita. As a result they all decided that each year they will have a special day where all of the other elephants will decorate themselves and Elmer will paint himself grey.David McKee is one of the world's best known illustrators of picture books, having created classics such as Not Now, Bernard, Elmer the Patchwork Elephant, and Mr Benn, Gladiator. Over the past few years children have become more and more involved in the environmental movement and now there are loads of fantastic eco-awareness books aimed at children. His most famous creation is Elmer the Patchwork Elephant which is now published in more than 50 languages and has its own successful global merchandise programme. com to record that I am either a Student, Parent, Nursery Teacher, Primary Teacher, Secondary Teacher, Literacy Coordinator, Librarian, Bookseller, Publisher or Other so that I can receive worldbookday.

The primal focus of the story is on ‘Elmer ‘who is an elephant that does not resemble the other elephants in his herd. The stories are suitable for early exploration of the themes and issues relating to the concept of Diversity. With its sturdy pages for little fingers, this gift is the perfect introduction to the world of Elmer. Slowly building up a collection of books from my childhood for my daughter and seeing 30th anniversary edition is starting to make me feel slightly old! Brilliant story as ever but Disappointingly the title and front cover of the book are only printed on the outer removable sleeve.

They make fools of the other elephants, but when the laughter dies down, Elmer reassures them that a heavy elephant is safe in the worst of gales. But their journey becomes far more of an adventure then they expected, when they find themselves lost at sea. A wonderfully upbeat and powerful tale that celebrates the uniqueness of the individual - and provides one of literature's best-loved characters too.
