It was after I put in those days and months of being there to listen, hold and comfort that it felt real. For anyone who has ever found themselves facing the unexpected in life - whether that's infertility, adoption, grief or any other personal challenge - this is an uplifting and honest account of finding love in unexpected places, and building your life on your own terms.

From the moment I heard Lisa talking to Chris Evans on Virgin Radio, I knew I needed to read this book. I realised what was most important: to love unconditionally, to nurture and mould, to watch a child grow and flourish. A great reminder that our paths may be different to those intended, but we can still get to the destination. I knew these small things were like a lighthouse to her in a stormy sea, making her feel as safe as she could and guiding her home.Lisa takes you on an emotional journey of the challenges she and other couples have faced to become a parent. Meant to Be: My Journey to Motherhood by Lisa Faulkner is out now in hardback and in paperback on 5th March. It was emotional and complicated and delicate for every single person involved and we were all just trying to do our best for this wonderful little girl.

It was so easy to empathise with her on her journey to motherhood and she describes what she went through to get there in an easy to understand but well written way. I didn’t need to worry, everyone had confidence in me – I had confidence in myself somewhere too, I just needed to find it. I don’t know how Billie’s life is going to turn out, but I will do everything I can to help her be the happiest she can be.I suddenly realised the amount of ‘stuff’ you need with a toddler and I didn’t want to be caught out by not having something crucial with me, especially as this would be the first time everybody had seen us together. She really needed us, and she needed us to step up to the mark and be the grown-ups and not let her down. In a raw and inspiring story of one woman's journey through motherhood, family life and self-discovery, Lisa explores the many forms that family can take, and discovers the power of embracing your Plan B. At this moment Billie was in the shared care of the local authority and her birth mother; we were simply the foster carers until all the court assessments were completed. As someone finding unable to have children now through sudden medical reasons before being able to try, I found it comforting/interesting to hear her views.

Hearst UK is the trading name of the National Magazine Company Ltd, 30 Panton Street, Leicester Square, London, SW1Y 4AJ. Over two years, my then-partner Chris and I went from trying to get pregnant naturally to having our fertility tested (everything looked normal) and going through IVF three times. this was a well written heart warming story, proving families come in all shapes and sizes no matter how they became to be.

The things that I utterly relate to are that she always felt on the outside and that the grief never leaves you .
