I first took out the Footjoy Fury on my east coast golf swing and wore them for a couple rounds at our Eighty Club event in Boston. To kick off, the Fury is said to be powered by a TruFIT System to provide golfers with stability where golfers need it and comfort where golfers want it. The are several signs that would suggest you are wearing the wrong size, like bunching of the leather, excessive wear in the heel pocket and insole, and the eyelets being too close or too far apart when done up. Therefore wrapping around the bridge of the foot to provide a secure fit with no tongue slippage during the golf swing.

The new Footjoy Fury shoes have also been designed to keep you stable in your golf swing with a new dual-density TPU outsole which is fitted with 9 spikes for outstanding traction, helping you to avoid slipping in any way during your golf swing. We think it looks great, although perhaps it looks marginally better on other people than looking down at your own where there's arguably one or two too many white lines. From the moment I laced up the shoes to the moment I took them off, I genuinely didn’t feel one niggle, one slight bit of blistering, an ounce of aching, or any sign of discomfort in either of my feet.

Straight away I thought this new upper design would be one to divide golfer’s opinions however, leaning on the side of the younger golfer as opposed to the ‘typical’ golfer, you may have associated with FootJoy in years gone by.One of his career highlights came when covering the 2012 Masters he got to play the sacred Augusta National course on the Monday after the tournament concluded, shooting a respectable 86 with just one par and four birdies. A new external FlexGrid MLC cage system that gives the shoe probably it’s most eye-catching aesthetic (the five thin grey stripes down the sides of the shoe), is in place to add structure to the upper and combine with the laces to ‘lock you in as you lace up’.

Most importantly, the right-fitting men’s shoe will increase your swing force but up to as much as 21%, resulting in more power and control when swinging the golf club and ultimately better golf performance. Granted, I reviewed the shoes in the white colourway, in January, but still I could see this frustrating some golfers all year round.For me, standing in the Fury felt like I was in high heels, but for many, perhaps most, it will be completely in line with their normal footwear.
