About this deal

This cuppa was pretty average, it gave a good strong colour, and had that pleasant, comforting tea smell too. The taste wasn't too bad, however left a subtle bitter aftertaste.

For me this was my previous 'go to' choice when it came to tea, though I have to admit it wasn't quite as flavoursome and punchy as the PG tips and Tesco's bags. Fruit teas are all well and good - and I do drink those too because otherwise I'd go through life looking like an over-caffeinated meerkat - but for a day-to-day cuppa that gives a burst of energy, a bit of warmth and a welcome break from my desk there is nothing better than PG Tips Extra Strong. It's basically the hot beverage equivalent of a bear hug in a mug.To say I feel strongly about tea would be a slight understatement, when I was a teenager I spent hours researching the different types of leaves and how it would impact taste and if it was worth the health benefits.

But there's nothing worse than popping round your mates for a cuppa only to find they don't keep your favourite brand of tea in. One might be tempted to carry an emergency brew kit in their bag for times when your loyal brand simply isn't on the menu. We certainly wouldn't judge. PG Tips will always have a special place in my heart, and the only real competitor which might make me consider swapping brands is Yorkshire Tea. Twinings may have the royal seal of approval, but that certainly wasn't enough (Image: Ellen Jenne) Jada Jones doesn't quite agree with Bethan and Narin about the 'perfect' cup of tea, instead preferring Twinings Vanilla Tea. Here's what she had to say. A strong contender that is up there with any of the other big hitters such PG Tips, Tesco, and Twinings, the well-known brand of Tetley made for an enjoyable drink that more than lived up to its popular reputation.Yorkshire’s colour was even better than the others, resembling a rich cup of melted milk chocolate. This brand would be a perfect introductory tea for tea drinking beginners and novices, before they move onto the hard stuff. The majority of Brits love a classic cup of tea, but sadly the price of tea bags have risen by 14 per cent. I was really pleasantly surprised by this one, it had a good taste of tea and didn't need too much brew time unlike some of the others. She’s no longer with us, dying five years ago on Christmas Eve, but the only thing she did leave me was my undying love for tea.

Twinings, the refined and everso posh tea brand which is often considered the pinnacle of tea, was up next.

Yorkshire Tea Red Label

The teabag felt rather flimsy, so I was worried about squeezing it too hard and ruining my brew with an explosion of tea particles. A little pricier than the first two, it was a slight improvement, not no Yorkshire Tea. Tesco's bags were the only ones that weren't foiled for freshness, but this didn't negatively impact the taste. It didn't have much of that lovely tea smell, but it was still a hearty cup and I would happily try again! Although the colour wasn’t as bold as Yorkshire’s, I forgave it as I knew it wouldn’t greatly impact the taste.
