Deaver is a master and if it were possible, this novel deserves more than 5 stars.

Although I have only read one other book in the series and some of the author’s other works, I found “Hunting Time” to be a captivating standalone novel. Set in Ferrington, a once-prosperous industrial town in the American Midwest, the story follows Colter Shaw, a reward seeker and survivalist, who is hired by Marty Harmon, CEO of Welbourne and Sons, to find Allison Parker. Allison, a senior nuclear engineer and a mother on the run with her daughter Hannah, is being pursued by her abusive ex-husband, Jon Merritt, a decorated former police detective recently released from prison. A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy.Each and every storyline comes to life as you read through Deaver’s books. The characters are vivid, controlled and concise. Each story can be read as a standalone version, even though each one is part of a line of similarly themed books. In further discussing some of his individual creations, will likely helps us to understand Jeffery Deaver as a relevant author. While some readers may find the complexity of the plot and the abundance of twists overwhelming at times, those who enjoy thrillers with intricate narratives will find "Hunting Time" to be a satisfying and rewarding read. The finale is a masterstroke, leaving readers stunned and eager for more. But Colter’s focus is re-set when the company’s chief designer, Allison Parker, subsequently goes missing - on the run from her violent husband who has just been released from jail and is threatening to kill her. The company is based in a Midwest Rust Belt town that’s seen better days. The river running through the town is badly polluted and frankly this place seems like just the sort of dump anyone would run away from! But her knowledge and skills are considered irreplaceable and the owner of the company is therefore willing to spend whatever it takes to find her and keep her safe. So, as her husband and a couple of trigger happy thugs go on the chase Colter is searching too, desperately hoping that he’ll get to her first. But hang on a minute… this is a Jeffery Deaver novel, so everything won’t be quite as you expect it to be.

Deaver keeps the thrills coming ,and throws some of his trademark curveballs to keep the reader on their toes. and Red Herrings will never become an endangered species as long as he keeps writing.Slight of hand and allowing us to assume where the story is going, means the author always stays one step ahead of his readers. The question, ratcheted up through increasing tension - can Shaw preserve life and outthink an enemy who outgun and outnumber him.
