About this deal

During the 10 days of the show, the DS took 80,000 deposits, and eventually just under one and a half million were built in total. Nikon’s reputation for incredible quality is well-deserved, and the 1980s saw them produce some of the most durable and dependable electronic cameras ever. I have it around for 2 years with me until suddenly the re-winder broke, this happen because I haven’t use the camera for maybe 3-5 months and it happened when I’m in Japan for traveling, the first roll… lol…, so for this kind of camera with automatic winder/re-winder you have to use it as often as you can, but at some point it will break, what can I say its an old camera. That’s not to suggest that anyone should immediately throw away all their SLRs and rangefinders, but to universally dismiss all point and shoots limits your photographic opportunities! Travelling far and wide for work meant that I required something fairly small and light but without compromising on quality.

Nikon L35AD2 (L35AF2) Point-and-Shoot Camera Review Nikon L35AD2 (L35AF2) Point-and-Shoot Camera Review

The Nikon AF3 is now the third all plastic point and shoot autofocus camera from the late 70s/early 80s in my collection and the second that was gifted to me. If there was one complaint I saw with these images, is that some of them seem to have harsh contrast. To use the L35AF you first need to install some AA batteries, then flip the switch on top to turn it on.If sand is present, it should be cleaned or rinsed off before changing film, and the O-rings that seal the film and battery compartments should be checked after every use for sand or other particulate contamination. It uses the simpler four-elements in three-groups lens found in the L35AF2 (made in 1985 and also known as the One Touch). lens is a very well regarded and highly sought after design – Nikon built this tiny little camera around an exceptional piece of glass. I could even argue that it’s a fantastic camera for those who loathe getting wet on the strength of its lens alone.

A more fair comparison would be between either a later variant of the Canon and the original Nikon L35AF from 1983. While it’s not the same lens as the one found in Nikon’s most famous compact camera, the L35AF Pikaichi, it is still an exceptional lens. I found this to be quite handy in being able to see what was just outside the frame and prepare for someone walking into it. The pictures look different because it uses a different design than most point-n-shoots — a “sonnar” where nearly all others use a simpler “tessar” design. More impressive because of their practical proficiency, the auto-exposure and auto-focus systems are especially notable in use.Although there are many different things that we might compare, I thought this would be fair, the MJU I has a fixed focal length, it’s similar in standard to the L35AF but it’s a much more sleek design, until recently these cameras were also very similar in value. Some will likely think of it as chunky and uninspired, while others will see it as a well-proportioned icon bursting with retro flair. The only reason these issues are forgivable is because the auto-focus system is actually pretty amazing. Nikon One Touch is identical to L35AF2 (no date back) — the only difference is the name, intended for export from Japan.
